Mayonnaise with CE mark: the highest guarantee of food safety for consumers

When it comes to mayonnaise, few people know that there is a huge difference between a product that simply complies with the law and a mayonnaise with the CE mark.

The CE mark is not a trademark or a marketing choice.

It is an official health authorization, required by EC Regulation 853/2004, which represents the highest level of protection for European consumers when ingredients of animal origin, such as eggs, are used.

And that’s exactly why almost no one has it.

What does “mayonnaise with CE marking” really mean?

Mayonnaise with the CE mark is produced in a factory approved by the European health authorities for the direct processing of eggs.

This means that:

  • the eggs are processed internally
  • the factory is subject to regular official veterinary checks
  • each stage of production follows strict hygiene, safety, and traceability procedures

The CE mark identifies the factory, not the individual product, and is a sign that the mayonnaise is produced under the highest level of control required by EU law.

Why most mayonnaises do NOT have the CE mark

Here lies the key point.

Many manufacturers—even very large ones and multinationals—do not produce mayonnaise with the CE mark because they purchase pasteurized eggs from external suppliers.

This means that:

  • they are not required to have the CE mark
  • they do not have an official veterinarian inspecting their facilities
  • they reduce costs, complexity, and liability

This is perfectly legal.

But it is a deliberate choice: to avoid the highest level of control.

TUTTOVO/Biobontà: the only mayonnaise with CE mark for egg products

TUTTOVO/Biobontà has chosen the opposite path.

It is the only company in Italy to produce mayonnaise with CE mark on egg products, assuming full responsibility for the health and safety of egg processing.

Not only that: TUTTOVOI/Biobontà has two CE marks:

  • CE mark for eggs
  • CE mark for milk

This is unusual in Italy.

Continuous veterinary checks: what changes for consumers

Producing mayonnaise with the CE mark means accepting:

  • frequent official veterinary inspections
  • over 20 mandatory control procedures
  • checks on environments, machinery, personnel, and processes

The CE mark is not obtained once and for all:

it can only be maintained by demonstrating compliance with European requirements on a daily basis.

For consumers, this translates into one very simple thing:

👉 greater real safety, not just declared safety.

There’s a veterinarian in your plate!

Mayonnaise with the CE mark: a responsible choice

The CE mark does not make mayonnaise “better.”
It makes it more controlled.
More traceable.
Safer.

In a market where safety is often communicated without being proven, producing mayonnaise with the CE mark is a clear choice.

TUTTOVO/Biobontà does not look for shortcuts.
It accepts the highest level of control required by European legislation.

And this is what really makes the difference, both on the plate and in the trust of those who choose it.
